Palin, Obama, and McCain all found themselves battling it out for Pennsylvania's 21 electoral votes today in the somewhat industrial sectors of PA. While McCain and Obama did most of the talking (about health care, etc), Palin only seemed to be there to draw in the crowds. Palin planned two more rallies in PA.
On a separate note, Palin addressed a group of a few hundred in the auditorium of Shippensburg University wearing a shirt similar to the one seen bellow. Although she claims it was a mishap because she was under the impression that her day was over, it could very well be a failed attempt to balance out the $150,000 wardrobe we've heard so much about.

CORRECTION: Sarah Palin's shirt said "SHIP HAPPENS" in reference to Shippensburg University where she was speaking.

I know it is the job of every news-person to be unbiased. Thankfully this is a blog. How do people take this woman seriously? This is a shirt that i would have worn if i was in an angsty mood when i was twelve years old. She runs for the party associated with "family values?" Sarah Palin is no more fit to have an important role in our government than i was when i was 12. If she ever comes to power it is a sad day for America and a scary one for the world as a whole.
I agree with Mason. Frankly, I was insulted when McCain picked her. Do you think that she would survive a closed door with Putin or Medvedev? Do you think that she'll actually understand Bernanke when he is jumping up and down, flailing his arms, and yelling about the capitalistic system falling apart? How will she handle Chavez, Ahmedinigad, Raul Castro...and a United Socialist States of South America?!?!
Now, I agree that Obama is a young pup, and that he won't be the best at these things. (The Dems should have chosen a more qualified chump) But at least, he has a couple of things in his favor.
1) He was humble enough to realize "hmm, maybe I don't know everything," and he thus put a heavyweight like Biden on the ticket.
2) With his tendency to equivocate, at least he won't tell Russia that he'd be willing to attack them...(cough cough Palin)...in fact, he'll just be a plain old politician
3) Not that Palin isn't...Obama has proven that he is bright. He went to Harvard after all...I may be biased or elitist, but I firmly believe that getting through a hard core educational program says a lot about a person's aptitude...Don't kill me...I admit that it is not everything....but you have to agree that it is something.
Bottom Line: Why couldn't have McCain chosen a REAL candidate...not a second first lady. He insults all of educated America by thinking that we'd fall for the dream....
Just a disclaimer again...I do think that the Dems should have gotten someone more qualified...and given that we have to work with what we've got...at least Obama realized that he does not have all the anwers.
I think it is finally evident that Palin, despite her popularity in some circles, is at this point hurting the McCain campaign. Why could we not have had someone like Romney? I agree with both Mason and Samir, experience and competence is essential in a vice presidential candidate.
(in response to Cameron's comment)
...especially if the president was a freshman senator from Illinois
...or especially if the president is a man who's Achilles heel is the economy.
I used to joke around with Grant that the Democrats made bad choices of who to put on their ticket... Thanks for making me look stupid McCain. Why can't Palin just go hide she is hurting the party and she has possibly destroyed the tiny political career she had with all of her dumb comments. Darn you Sarah!!!!
I totally agree with you both. I groaned when I heard the Palin pick. Even when he was winning in part because of her, during the post-convention bump, I was not satisfied because they were winning for the wrong reasons. I really wish McCain would have just sucked it up and picked Romney, but who really knows, maybe Romney secretly said no (we will never know until the memoirs come out).
As for the Democrats, this has truly been their election to lose. You couldn't ask for better circumstances, unpopular president, sluggish economy, unpopular war. I expected them to just go with a mainstream Dem such as Biden (my personal favorite Dem) in order to finally get a win. For Obama's VP pick, I dont think he was being humble, I think he, or his campaign managers, knew enough that his ticket needed more expeience, even if it meant sacrificing some of the of his "outsider" credibility.
This truly has been an unusual election.
What a weak attempt to cover up the whole price tag thing.. I know it shouldn't decide the election but that was A LOT of money spent on clothing. I really liked Michelle Obama's comment on the Daily Show on how she buys her clothes online..
There is one plus of Sarah Palin's addition to the Republican ticket.. HALLOWEEN COSTUMES.
My brother is being Sarah Palin, tomorrow. I will be sure to provide the class with pictures next week.
Republican strategists thought it was in the best interest to add someone who brought something extra to the ticket that McCain lacked. Palin certainly brings the social conservative values that reaffirm uneasy voters but what he needed was someone who brings clear economic acumen.
The clear VP choice should have been Mitt Romney. While its hard to reminisce when the election is only a few days away, I think that Romney would have given what Biden gives Obama and probably more. Granted Massachusetts's economic record was pretty poor during Romney's years in office, he has the record (CEO Bain Capital, Winter Olympics, etc.) and knowledge of the economy that may have turned the McCain campaign a different way especially in hindsight.
I assume if everything goes as predicted on Tuesday, there will be a media storm analyzing McCain's big misjudgment and the failure of the Palin pick.
