Palin Indirectly Causes Damage

Fox news reported on December 14th that Sarah Palin's hometown church in Wasilla, Alaska was burned down by an arsonist with people - including two children - still inside. No one was hurt, but speculation is being made about the motives of the arsonist, particularly whether it was "as a result of 'undeserved negative attention' caused by her vice presidential campaign." Palin apollogized to the paster, who showed up just in time to see the entire church enfulged with smoke. It seems that the GOP excitment that Sarah Palin brought in is slowly being replaced by regreat, and in this case, violent actions.

Another interesting happening followed this same theme this week. McCain was asked byy ABC weather Palin could count on his support. In responce, McCain said "I can't say something like that. We've got some great other young governors. I think you're going to see the governors assume a greater leadership role in our Republican Party." The Palin bandwagon - assuming it existed - seems to be comming to a halt.

Palin at it again

The Associated Press reported that Sarah Palin is once again on the campaign trail. This time, instead of rallying in support of John McCain she will be rallying for Republican Senator Saxby Chambliss in Georgia. Chambliss received the most votes, but because he was not able to acquire over 50 percent of the vote he must now participate in a run off election. Palin was brought in to help stimulate conservative voters while the democratic opposition is targeting black voters.

Palin has been attending fundraisers and is set to speak at rallies. Although her presence is significant for Georgia, it is even more significant for Democrats across the nation, for a loss in Georgia would make it impossible for them to receive the 60 seats necessary to block Republican filibusters.

In times when gas prices have dropped dramatically and questions about Palin's trial concerning her ex brother-in-law are thriving, its astonishing that Palin isn't in Alaska, looking after the budget and her case.

A Changed Palin

For Palin, opportunities have been sprouting everywhere, ranging from multiple television interviews to the wrath of the GOP.

Sarah Palin has recently had interviews with Larry King and Wolfe Blitzer, as well as Matt Lauer and Greta Van Susteren. Although much of the same chat about Palin's wardrobe and other issues continued, the real spoltlight was on Palin's possible candidacy in 2012, to which she responded,"The future is not that 2012 presidential race; it's next year and our next budgets,"once again dodging the bullet.

Although Palin may have helped Alaskan Senate and House candidates through gaining them a stronger Republican base in Alaska, she still isn't being recognized by republicans and their future. In fact, on Thursday the RGA announced its new leadership lineup, which does not include Sarah PAlin.

On a side note, Palin may strike a $7million book deal. Some would say she's milking her failure for all its worth.

Palin Plans

With the election comming to a close, all the talk about whether Palin helped or hurt McCain is trickling away and being replaced by talk of the republicans' futures. Palin remains vague on her plans for the future, but didn't strike out 2012 as a possibility. Her immediate plans are to return to her duties in Alaska, which may turn out to be significant considering the senate race. Overall, "Palin Plans to Remain on GOP's National Stage"

On a separate note, Tina Fey plans to step down as Palin impersonator for SNL so she can work on her own show, 30 Rock.

Three Big Dogs in PA

Palin, Obama, and McCain all found themselves battling it out for Pennsylvania's 21 electoral votes today in the somewhat industrial sectors of PA. While McCain and Obama did most of the talking (about health care, etc), Palin only seemed to be there to draw in the crowds. Palin planned two more rallies in PA.

On a separate note, Palin addressed a group of a few hundred in the auditorium of Shippensburg University wearing a shirt similar to the one seen bellow. Although she claims it was a mishap because she was under the impression that her day was over, it could very well be a failed attempt to balance out the $150,000 wardrobe we've heard so much about.

State Funds

It has been discovered in recent days that Sarah Palin has been using Alaskan state funds to pay for her daughters flight fairs to various parts of the country, mostly Juneau. State law says that for state funds to be used, it must be for official state business. Apparently to Palin that means taking a family photo and watching their father compete in a dog snowmobile race. This issue, when combined with the numerious other negative storys that have come out about Palin, adds to the fatal blow Palin is delivering to McCain's campaign. Overall it seems Palin is holding the Republican ticket down.

Just a friendly note:
"putting this in God's hands, that the right thing for America will be done at the end of the day on Nov. 4." -Palin
Who needs a campaign when you have extreme religion?

Palin and McCain are in Ohio together, a state which no republican nominee has lost and gone on to win the election. For McCain and McCain supporter's sake, Palin can't slip up. At this point it would only take a single slip on Palin's part to destory McCain's campaign altogehter.

Quotes from below

For some reason they turned out really small:

1. "Its time to get tough. McCain is a gentleman and that's part of the problem. He doesn't want to get in there bloody somebody's nose verbally, and that's what he needs to do."

2.
"Now America, doggonit, unfortunately we are deep in debt," she said. "Barrack Obama would make us even deeper in debt; we've got to reverse this."

Palin and McCain together in Virginia

Palin and McCain arrived at Virginia Beach October 13th. Together they tackled mainly economic issues such as how the $700 bailout isn't working, and how Obama does not know how to fix the economy. It seems that although the pair are always ready to bash Obama, they rarely if ever put forward their own plans.

Afterward, Palin continued on to Richmond, where she continued to bash Obama. As one conservative said,

"Its time to get tough. McCain is a gentleman and that's part of the problem. He doesn't want to get in there bloody somebody's nose verbally, and that's what he needs to do."

If McCain in fact lacks in the ability to "bloody somebody's nose verbally," then Palin sure makes up for it.

"Now America, doggonit, unfortunately we are deep in debt," she said. "Barrack Obama would make us even deeper in debt; we've got to reverse this.
You just have to love the fact that she said doggonit! Palin is expected to continue her campaign in West Chester, Butler County (the PA one i belive). With Pennsyvania leaning towards Obama, the Republican Party will be doing all it can to gain voter support in that state, and will infact be calling 150,000 voters with autimated phone calls.

Is Palin As Open As She Claims?

Palin's Alaska campaign was based on the notion that she would be 100% open with the people about what was going on in Alaska, such as her plan to publish Alaska's spending online for citizens to view. Although she carried out her promise, the fact that she used private forms of communication (such as her email account as mentioned in a pervious post) for most issues serves to show that she went back on the promise of her Alaska campaign. If the American people couple McCain and his Vice President nominee, this could cause Americans to think that the promises that Palin and McCain are making are simply election manouvers.

Palin, still in Florida, rallied from Jacksonville in the northeast to Pensacola in the pandhandle, drawing out crowds of liberal-loathing Americans in red t-shirts. The mudd slinging continued, and in some cases tensions grew so thin that onlookers would be under the impression that these were not McCain-Palin rallies, but rather Anti-Obama rallies.

As Julie Bosman said in one article:

"If there were undecideds, independents or swing voters among them, they were awfully hard to spot."
Finally, McCain and Palin appeared together on a Fox television program called "Hannity and Colmes," where the conservative host Hannity gave the candidates seemingly pre-rehearsed simple questions, almost as if they were trying to make up for a certain interview with a certain Katie Couric.

Palin Visits the Golden State

Palin appeared in Carson, Los Angeles Country and the Bay Area in California before a large group of Palin-supporters. California, a largely democratic state, became the forum for Palin's smearing of Obama in an attempt to dissconnect Obama from the American people. She claimed that Obama "sees America as imperfect enough to pal around with terrorists who targeted their own country," once again trying to tie Obama to anti-americanism. She continued by saying, ""This is not a guy who sees America as you and I see America... We see America as a force for good in the world."

This all after Palin and Bidin's vice presidential debate, which as predicted by Mr. Shulman, turned out to be pointless politically, and more like a vice-prediential reality show. The following is a brief represenation of parts of the debate.

Palin: "I may not answer questions the way you or the moderator want me to but I'm talking directly to the American people."

Biden: “Look, in an Obama-Biden administration, there will be absolutely no distinction from a constitutional standpoint or a legal standpoint between a same-sex and a heterosexual couple,” Biden said in answer to a question about whether he supported equal benefits for same-sex couples.

Palin: "Your question to him was whether he supported gay marriage and my answer is the same as his and it is that I do not."
Days after this encounter both vice presidential candidates set to work in Florida, possibly the most important swing state in the election. It was said that in between her visits Palin attended private fundraisers for the McCain campaign.

Overall nothing Palin has been doing these past few days has really shaken the election. Although some say she has stabalized McCain support, Obama is still pulling ahead in the polls.

Palin Has Good Talkings

Ever since Palin was announced as McCain's running mate, it has become obvious that she speaks in a very special sort of way. Among other things, she has a heavy accent, does not always use correct grammar, and often times seems to "cute-ify" her words. Within themselves, these factors are minuscule, but this trait is very strongly assosiated with George W. Bush and his infamous Bushisms. McCain has seemingly been trying to seperate himself from the president, and in my oppinnion done so successfully and to the best of his abilities in his current situation. Despite his attempts, when his vice presidential nominie shows traits similar to those of the very man McCain is trying to avoid, it may bring the issue back into question for the american people. In an election this close, such a miniscule factor could very well be the deciding factor.

Palin Quote
Palin: I’m absolutely for equal pay for equal work. The Ledbetter pay act - it was gonna turn into a boon for trial lawyers who, I believe, could have taken advantage of women who were many, many years ago who would allege some kind of discrimination. Thankfully, there are laws on the books, there have been since 1963, that no woman could be discriminated against in the workplace in terms of anything, but especially in terms of pay. So, thankfully we have the laws on the books and they better be enforced.

Trooper Probe Update + Sarah Palin's Email (09-17-08)

While Palin continues her campaign with McCain around the country, an Alaska senate panel is investigating claims that she misused her powers. She dismissed the director of public safety, Walt Monegan, and while some claim it was because he refused to fire a state trooper who happened to be the governors ex brother in law, Palin claims it was because of a budget dispute. A judiciary committee voted to subpoena thirteen people, including Palin's husband Todd, whom many are urging should reveal personal information about the trooper. Republicans have been calling for the case to be held off until after the election, and some of Palins supporters are urging lawmakers to turn the investigation to the state government. Although this issue may seem miniscule it may be one of those minor factors which tip the election one way or another for McCain.

On a seperate note, hackers were able to break into Palin's personal email account and certain emails were given to the assosiated press. They infringed on her personal space and broke the law, but because they were able to hack her email, certain conversations between Palin and members of the Alaskan government were given to the associative press and may be used against Palin at some point in her campaign.

Sarah Palin Defends Experience, McCain Foreign Policy; Dems Pounce on 'Bush Doctrine'

Charlie Gibson Interviews Alaska Governor, McCain VP Candidate Again on Friday

Gov. Sarah Palin never claimed to be a foreign policy expert, but should the potential next vice president of the United States be expected to know about a fundamental principle that has guided the way America has conducted foreign affairs since before we went to war in Iraq?

Pic image of Alaska Governor Sarah Palin during an interview with ABC News' Charlie Gibson in Fairbanks, Alaska.
Alaska Governor Sarah Palin, John McCain's Republican vice presidential running mate, sits down for a series of three interviews with ABC News' Charlie Gibson. Palin joined the GOP ticket just before the Republican National Convention.
(DONNA SVENNEVIK / ABC)

Predictably, the Democrats say "yes" and the Republicans say "no."

Like much of the reaction to Thursday night's exclusive interview of Palin by ABC News's Charles Gibson, opinions about how she responded to one question in particular about the "Bush Doctrine" fell along partisan lines.

When asked by Gibson if she agreed with the Bush doctrine -- the administration's policy of preemptively striking another country in the face of potential attack -- Palin seemed unfamiliar with the term.

Palin initially said she interpreted the "Bush doctrine" to mean the president's "world view."

When asked by Gibson, "Do we have a right to anticipatory self-defense? Do we have a right to make a preemptive strike again another country if we feel that country might strike us?" Palin said yes.

"Charlie, if there is legitimate and enough intelligence that tells us that a strike is imminent against American people, we have every right to defend our country. In fact, the president has the obligation, the duty to defend," the Alaska governor said.

ABC News.com readers commented through the night on how Palin handled the question and the pundits similarly weighed in this morning on Good Morning America.

"I know people will really try to go after that and say she didn't even know what that was," ABC News consultant and Republican strategist Torie Clarke told "Good Morning America."

"You can pick 500 people out of the White House, the State Department and the Pentagon, and say tell me what the Bush doctrine is, and they would go 'I don't know,'" Clarke said. "But I don't think that's going to have, I don't know, the substance or the bite, that some people think it will."

Throughout the two interviews Palin granted ABC News Thursday, the governor appear poised and on message. But the seeming slip-up over the Bush doctrine opened the door for Democrats to pounce.

"It's the premise of our foreign policy of the last seven years. Again, for somebody that got a passport last year, I'm just being honest," Democratic strategist James Carville told "GMA." "I'm not surprised she didn't know."

"She needs to get up to speed a little more," Carville added.

Merill Lynch, yet another one of the big four has been pushing for an acquisition by Bank of America. With only two major IB's remaining in the United States (Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley), it will be interesting to see the response from both presidential/ vice-presidential candidates.
